Nick Dennis

Some sad news. Word reaches me that Nick Dennis, a stalwart player in the League in the 1980s and into the 1990s, passed away on the 15th of January in hospital.

Nick played for the Millstone team and others and was A League Individual Champion on (at least) 6 occasions. Nick was a very formidable player in this and many other fora. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to his family at this sad time.

Nick’s funeral will be held on Wednesday the 3rd of February with a service and committal at Macclesfield Crematorium at 3.20pm. Any further enquiries should be directed to Hooley, Watson and Buckley – Tel 422734

Week 10 – where shall we put it...?

As we know, all Week 10’s matches (on the 5th of January, the first week after the Christmas break) were postponed due to the snow. It made sense to do so at the time, indeed very few of us would have made it anyway I suspect. To make sure the correct number of games are played by all teams, we need to re-schedule that week’s games, the questions for which had been compiled by the Plough Taverners and the Baths Speedos.

In terms of rearrangement, our last scheduled game currently is the 16th of March and I had provisionally penciled in Finals Night for two weeks after that which would avoid Easter etc – Good Friday is the 2nd of April and Easter Monday the 5th.

After some thought and consultation, I have decided we will play the missing “Week 10” games on the 23rd of March, the week immediately following the last scheduled games, and then have the Finals night (all things being equal) 3 weeks after that on the 13th of April, which would miss all the Easter holidays and allow time to get all the trophies done etc. That would still leave us finishing a good month earlier than normal – we had the Finals Night on the 12th of May last year.

Please make sure you adjust your diaries accordingly. The games we would have played on the 5th of January will now become the last week of the season on the 23rd of March.

Pussycat Guys = Nags Head

The Pussycat Guys in the A League relocated to the Nags Head in Waters Green earlier in the season after the Puss’s temporary closure. They are staying put for the duration now and have decided to formally call themselves the Nags Head. I have amended all the records for this season accordingly, but if you are ever looking for the Pussycat Guys, the Nags Head is where you will find them.

Cup & Plate - Quarter Final Results & Semi Final Draw

Tomorrow - Cup and Plate (19/01/2010)

Tomorrow night (Tuesday 19th) sees the Cup and Plate Quarter finals being played.

As we are a bit “out of sync” with News & Views due to the weather scenario I thought I would get the message out this way, albeit I am sure those involved are aware. The games are:-

Cup – Quarter Finals

Weaver v Church House Bollington
Dolphin v Crown
Ox-fford ‘C’ v Ox-fford
Castle v Dolphin Dragons

Plate – Quarter Finals

Harrington Academicals v Waters Green Rams
Plough Horntails v British Flag
Baths Speedos v Sutton Church House
Waters Green Phoenix v Cock Inn

Questions for the night are being set by the Knot Inn & the Pack Horse Bowling Club. They will provide 3 Question Masters each to cover the games to be played.

The Plough Taverners & the Pussycat Guys will supply 1 Question Master each which will provide cover for all 8 games.

All other teams have the night off.

A draw will be made as to who will set the questions for the Cup and Plate Semi-finals from the losing teams in the above games.

I will include the results / semi final draw and all last week’s league results in the N&Vs for the 26th.

Back to life...12/01/2010

Folks,

Not so much a thaw, more just less freezing than it was...

Conditions have relented sufficiently so that we will resume tomorrow night, Tuesday the 12th, with the games scheduled for that date.

POSTPONED TONIGHT - 05/01/2010

Folks,

I have spoken to some of you on the phone today and will call everyone else shortly.

Due to the weather conditions etc, tonight’s round of games is postponed.

Conditions are bad (and will get worse) and there are enough travel horror stories about currently without us adding to them. It is already apparent that several teams couldn’t make tonight anyway despite their best intentions.

Given that we are finishing earlier than usual this season, I will look at rescheduling all tonight’s games - and using the questions already written – somewhere at the end of the season. I will work out the possibilities.

Please pass this on to all your folks – all the Quiz League games are postponed tonight and we will start again (hopefully!) with the scheduled matches next Tuesday the 12th.

Regards,

MW
